Get Out of the Box! Creative and Practical Help for Moms who want to come home, or stay home. Sorry guys, we are not meaning to be sexist. We just figure we ought to teach what we know, and us women really don't know WHAT it feels like to be a Work at Home Dad. But if you are secure in your masculinity, we welcome you to use the information here as well! (smile please)

Christian Perspective

This page is offered for those who feel that such a huge effort could not be accomplished without the help of the Lord. To whom faith is a guiding principle, and doing what the Lord wants, the most important thing.

For those who believe in Jesus Christ, and answer to prayer, there is extra comfort, surety, and hope in setting out to accomplish a noble goal. Women are the daughters of God, and as such, can receive special blessings in motherhood. This section explores the power of prayer in a business endeavor, applying Christlike principles to handle issues in the home, and using scripture to keep peace and obtain knowledge.

Scripture as a Tool

Reading scriptures is often perceived as a chore which is inflicted on us, and one that we feel is too boring to learn to do. I can state from personal experience though, that if you can stop seeing reading scripture as a chore, and see it as a tool to get what you want, it will truly help you in being a better mother.

Our family reads scripture together once a day. It is HARD to do, because we are all going our separate ways, each with things they want to do, and to get nine people to all sit down at the same time for 10 minutes is hard. But here is what it does for us:

Helps the kids be better behaved, more willing to obey, and less inclined to fight with each other.

Helps Kevin and I get along with each other better, and be more patient with the kids.

Teaches us to be less selfish.

Helps me feel more like doing the things I don't want to do, but need to do.

Helps to comfort me when I feel like I just cannot make it any longer.

Helps us see patterns in world events that help us know whether events are positive or negative.

Helps our kids learn to read better. Really. We found that the 10 minutes we spend reading with the kids out of the scriptures is more effective than a half an hour of other time. It does not replace reading with them or teaching them reading specifically, but makes such a difference in how fast they learn it.

Helps us have a more peaceful home, and more security in knowing we will be ok no matter what.

This is why I see scriptures as a tool to get what I want. All those things are things I want badly enough to spend 10 to 15 minutes a day, no matter how hard it is, in paying that small price to get them. If our family is successful to any degree, this is why I think we are.

Prayer as a Resource

I firmly believe that God answers prayers. Not always the way we want Him to, but He does answer. This is the best resource you have to get the information you need about what you need to do and how you need to do it. After all, we cannot know anything beyond our limited view. God knows everything, and can help us make a choice that may not seem important now, but may make all the difference down the road a ways. Staying home with your kids is a noble goal, and one that the Lord will assist you with, but you have to ask for the help, strength, and wisdom to do it right.

Christlike Love as the Greatest Gift

When you face a problem with a member of your family, concentrating on finding a Christlike solution can provide a way of working it out that is just amazing. Worldly wisdom dictates that we feel anger about personal slights, that we can get revenge, that fights with our teens are inevitable. Christlike love applied generously works miracles in helping us see the problems and people we deal with differently, and opens doors to joy that no other means does.

God Knows What We Do Not

Our view of our lives and of the world is limited. We cannot see ahead what will work and what will not. God can, and while He will not always give us details, if we try to listen to what He is trying to tell us, we can avoid many problems, and deal with the ones that do come up much more successfully. He can see ways of doing things we would never consider. He can see possibilities where we see only limitations. Tapping into that creativity and broader view opens our lives up to a wonderous journey.
