Especially for Singles Full-time Mom takes on a whole new meaning. Your needs are more demanding, and your resources may be more limited, but careful strategies can make it work. Financial Demands You won't have a husband's income to fall back on, so your business has to start out either as a second job, or you will need financing to get it off to a good start. It is essential that you go with a carefully researched and planned choice, there will not be room for many mistakes. Scheduling Your time may need to be more carefully scheduled than other work at home moms. You may need to do work that occurs in small blocks, so you can give your kids the attention they need between. Choose something you can do on a flexible schedule, and you can get in an hour or two of work in the evening when kids are in bed. Burnout You will be more prone to burnout with a double burden. The burden really isn't heavier than if you worked outside the home, just different. Be sure you plan regular relief times, when you can go and be by yourself for an hour or two. Getting Help You may need to hire help, if income allows, for housekeeping or childcare tasks. Raising a child alone is unquestionably harder than doing so with a spouse, and the more help you can get with heavy needs, the easier it will be to balance it all. Try to keep the people in and out of your kids' lives familiar and consistent as far as possible though, and don't abuse the goodwill of others. Consider exchanging childcare with another work at home mom.
