Systems For Success How to build successful patterns to make business more efficient, and training more successful. Includes issues of automation, and assessment. Franchising Exactly what is franchising, and why would you want to learn more about it? Franchising means that you build a replicatable system, which can be done by anyone who follows the instructions. McDonald's, Sonic, and other fast food empires have been built on this principle. So what good does it do you? If you operate a successful business, you have either followed instructions to do that, or you have tested, and then refined, until you found a process that works. If you grow your business enough to add features, you'll do the same with them, testing, refining, and then repeating the successful system over and over. You can hire others to help and teach them to do the same if you write down what makes it work. And once you have a fully functioning business, you could replicate the entire business if you wrote down all the things you do in a way someone else can repeat. Now, understand, not everyone CAN follow the instructions. And others CAN follow them, but WON'T, because they want to do it their own way. MLM tries to operate on the franchising concept, and about 70% of the people who attempt it fail, and another 20% just do enough to make a little now and again. Less than 1% actually achieve stellar results. What a franchise attempts to do is make a foolproof system that anyone can do. But what it cannot do is develop a foolproof person to follow the foolproof system. So what good is franchising to you? Following principles of replication and systems can help your business run more smoothly. Because while some people will screw it up no matter how good the system, having the system and adhering to it does minimize errors in your company, even if you are the only person using the system. A good system will provide a guideline for you to use to avoid error, and will institute checklists or instruction sheets for step-by-step processes that are complex. Like recording your recipes, good businesses record what makes them successful, and then they repeat it. Forms The purpose of forms is the same as franchising. A good form provides a consistent way of gathering information, or of presenting information to someone else. If you design your own forms, or purchase pre-designed ones that work for your business, you have a means of delivering consistent information to whomever requires that information. Get forms for any information that you have to gather on a repetitive basis. It will save you time and help to professionalize your business. Templates Templates have two applications: When you need something that you don't know how to make, a template created by someone else, and customized by you can give you a framework within which to produce a professional document, site, or other creative work. Templates can save you a great deal of time and effort, especially when you are learning a new skill. Some will cost you, some are available free. The other way that templates can help you is when you design your own. If you have to create an item over and over, with variations each time, you can build a flexible structure and then replicate that and customize it. Templates are often used for forms, websites, legal documents, and more. For a website, you can create a basic design, then replicate it for the pages in a site, and then add individual page content. In this way, a template can save you a ton of time. If you create forms or other items for other people, templates are a great way to start with a framework and customize it for individual needs. You can use them for any item that has similarities with slight variations. When to Automate Only automate when doing so provides a benefit to the customer. It should not just be more convenient to you, it should provide something that the customer wants also, otherwise you'll lose customers and it will not be worth it. When to keep it Manual Keep everything manual that improves your ability to earn by doing so. This is complex because often the tasks that you do manually are ones that just happen to be necessary for your particular customers. Another business with different customers might automate something that you have to keep doing yourself. Think about things from your customer's point of view, and figure out where the benefit lies. That will tell you more about what is appropriate than any general business statistics will. Regular Assessment and Review In any business, it is to your advantage to regularly assess your business, and adjust to compensate for changes. Change happens, it is a constant in life! Make sure you pay attention to trends and patterns in your business. There will be seasonal patterns that repeat themselves each year. There will be other factors that influence trends also, but overall, after a year or two you'll have an idea of what is a normal pattern and what signals a need for some kind of compensating adaptation in your operating methods. Assessment and adjustment separates survivors from those who go under when things change that they did not see coming.
